WASHINGTON - FOX 5's Roby Chavez has confirmed that Michelle Rhee will be leaving her position as D.C. Schools Chancellor. She is expected to step down at the end of the month.
Rhee leaves her post after more than three years on the job.
Presumptive D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray will hold a news conference Wednesday at 10:30 a.m at the Mayflower Hotel.
Sources inside the Gray camp tell FOX 5 News that the two could not agree to work together. Instead, she will walk away from a school system in the middle of radical reform.
Gray had said he would not make an announcement regarding Rhee until after the November election, but late Tuesday, sources say Rhee decided to leave her post and informed both Gray and current D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty.
FOX 5's Karen Gray Houston reports Deputy Chancellor Kaya Henderson will fill in on an interim basis and a permanent replacement is not expected until November.
